You can use a few drops of liquid soap on the foils, let it run for a bit, then generously rinse it under tap water to remove all the foam. You can also use the included brush to further clean the inner area of the cassette. Do not use it on the foils as they can be easily damaged. I’ll first go over the manual cleaning process and then we’ll see how the station performs.
Series 5 is on par with Series 7 in terms of shaving closeness. With almost the same cutting elements, shavers from both series can satisfy most men. They do not deliver the closest shave in the category of foil shavers but are still at the top of the class. In addition, you will experience a lot more vibration and noise shaving with Series 5, whereas the counterpart gives you a less trembling and quieter shave.
And this is quite important for getting a quick shave, especially if your beard is dense and thick. I had to switch to the beard trimmer and cut them — this is when I also missed having an integrated trimmer that I could just extend and use. Secondly, the flat hairs on my neck required many passes and even so, a few odd stray hairs just refused to surrender. First of all, I had to use even slower strokes to avoid hairs getting pulled. On a short beard, it wasn’t usually a problem, but in this situation more attention was needed. I particularly enjoyed using the 5018s wet mainly because of the added slickness; the head just glides over the skin effortlessly.
The up and down swivel of the head that we’ve seen on all Braun models from the Series 5 and up was actually very useful in practice. The back of the 5018s is completely barren, with no slide-out trimmers or charging pins. It is very clicky and easy to operate, including when your hand is wet or covered in foam. The thumb rest area integrates the power button as well and it sits pretty much flush with the surface. Like all the other 2020 models, the Series 5 also has a thumb rest on the front part. Its position is just right and it’s covered in the same rubberized material.
There is a multi-direction headlock technology in the shaver that allows you to lock the flexible head in a predetermined position for shaving tricky areas. Braun implemented a built-in precision trimmer in the shaver that is enough for precision trimming and detailing. In short, this is a solution for advanced technology and shaving results.
The older Braun Series 5 shavers come in a straight design that feels like the highest-end Braun Series 9. But the new generation Series 5 shavers come in an irregular shape. The shape has been engineered for making the device lightweight and user-friendly. But most of the users still find the older shape more comfortable. However, the new design fits in grasp more accurately since it’s slimmer and lighter than the older ones. Braun used innovative slim and SmartClick technology in the new generation of shavers and consequently, the Braun 5018s comes with a SmartClick trimmer.
The design of the Series 5 is so sleek that the braun Series 9, which is the high end of the Braun range, has the same design and is highly recommended. The handle is widest at the top, near the cassette, and then tapers down in the middle. The Braun Series 5 is a majority black colour, with small bits of red or blue detail, while the shaving head comes in either black or silver. The shaver has 3 flexible blades that are advertised as being able to effortlessly follow the curves and contours of your face. I used shaving foam with it and It left patches of hair intact pretty much all over.
Just make sure the cassette is completely dry before applying the lubricant. But the truth is that it would have taken me less time to simply remove the cassette and give it a thorough rinse . And I was really thorough with it and spent quite a bit of time doing it. There’s a cutout below the shaving unit covered by two rubber flaps. And that’s a bit odd since all of them are actually compatible with the stations shipped with the 2020 Series 7 and 6 .
The robust third generation and some 2nd generation series 5 shavers are available on the market with and without automatic cleaning and charging station. Beyond the existing Series 5 shavers, Braun released Remington Shaver their new shaped electric shavers in the Series in 2020 which are slightly downgraded. However, Braun minimized the price range in the newly released shavers and added some extra facilities as well.
