As for recommended models, I would suggest opting for one of the cc variations that include an automatic cleaning station. Even if he won’t be using it after every shave , the station is very useful for a thorough cleaning every once in a while. It does a better job than any manual cleaning could and it also lubricates the blades. All the Series 5 shavers, including the 5090cc in our review, use the 52s or the 52b replacement shaving heads, called cassettes.
Particularly its head is smaller and I think this would suit my face better. Also the feature of 2 retracted trimmers seems very compelling. The Arc 5 does get closer, but it is more noticeable on areas with thick, coarse hair. I have that type of hair on my chin, below the nose and on the neck. So I am able to notice a difference when running my hand against the grain right after I shave.
Alternatively, you can also throw in your method — using the Jet Clean solution which is detergent-based and should work really well. It also has lubricating properties, but unless you’ll be using it after every Remington Shaver shave, I think you’ll still have to oil the shaver yourself once or twice a week. The 5140s is usually less expensive than other Series 5 variations, particularly the cc models that come with a cleaning station.
Unless you’re particularly concerned with getting the closest possible shave, you’ll probably be satisfied with the performance of the Series 5. You can squeeze more cleaning cycles out of them by using the station less often and performing a manual cleaning when you’re not in a hurry. This will help you get more cleanings out of the cartridge before needing to be replaced. I personally do it every time as it takes only a few seconds. It works excellent for cleaning and sanitizing the shaver and also dries very fast.
The shaver shaves efficiently with maximum skin care that feels really good to handle. The Braun Series s comes with an auto sensing motor that automatically reads beard density and adjusts the shaving power accordingly. This is a very new technology for that was not implemented in the older generation shavers. Braun designed the existing Series 5 models with 3 pressure sensitive shaving elements as a result; the Braun 5145s is highly efficient for sensitive skin. I have been using a Braun Series 5 shaver for so long I can’t remember when I purchased it! I think the battery in my shaver is finally refusing to charge.
