I am yet to test this feature, so I can’t really comment on its effectiveness. 5050Cs features a Li-ion battery and these Philips Norelco Shaver generally have good power retention. This shaver has a runtime of 50 minutes and takes about one hour of charging.
If you already own a previous Series 5, don’t think you’ll get an upgrade with the 5018s. I wouldn’t be too worried about this as we’ve seen this happening with other newly launched Braun models in the past. At the moment of writing this review, the cassette is not yet available for purchase. You should switch the shaver on for a few seconds after that to help distribute the oil evenly across the cutters.
You may also use the included brush, but only on the inside of the cassette, never directly on the foils. I tried cleaning my 5018s exclusively in this manner for the first 3 shaves just to see how effective it is. One of the reasons for this is of course the less powerful motor which also contributes to a lengthier shaving session. But if you need to pre-trim a beard, it’s definitely better than any integrated trimmer. You’ll have to manually remove the cassette and pop it in its place every time you need to use it. I personally have a preference for integrated hair trimmers.

So I am about to decide if I want to continue shaving with the cord, or purchase a new Braun shaver. I started my review with the Series 9, then the Series 7, and finally the Series 5. My Series 5 looks quite Philips Norelco Shaver different than the photos in this review. My battery indicator is two green LEDs and one red LED with the word “low” printed below. Below the “Braun” name I have the word “clean” and a yellow LED indicator.
