It is hard to avoid the vacuum for that long on a consistent schedule. I thought I could break up zones so it avoids me but this is not possible. Overall, great vacuum in terms of performance, bad vacuum in terms of ease of use.
It doesn’t actually store and remember routes, though, since furniture and other obstacles can move between runs. Dyson’s bot is very systematic about its movements, as it travels out from the dock in concentric squares throughout your entire house. The first thing dyson robot vacuum I noticed when I saw Dyson’s 360 Eye was that it was ridiculously tall. Shaped more like a dense 3-layer cake than its wider-flatter counterparts from iRobot and Neato, I assumed it would never clear coffee tables, chairs and other low-profile furniture.
However, cheaper options are available that sport around 1500Pa which are still perfectly capable. According to a 2018 survey by Consumer Reports in the US, robot vacuums last an average of five years. Of course, this is based on models that are, for the most part, no longer sold. Lower-end models often come with a remote control similar to a classic TV remote instead. By contrast, virtual boundaries are what makes the X8 Hybrid so great. On your first clean in a new room, simply set it off on Auto and this robot vacuum will map your room—taking note of any obstacles it will need to navigate and adjusting accordingly.
You can get much cheaper, great performing robot vacuum cleaners such as the Roborock S6 Pure, Roborock S4 Max and the Eufy RoboVac G30 Edge. The sensors are able to detect and adapt to different floor types and develop a multi-floor map of your home. During product development, the Dyson team built simulation tools to test the robot in silico. The team then set up a trolley and representative camera and optics, and drove it around hundreds of homes with a PlayStation controller.
This is simply Dyson’s name for its latest brushless electric motors, which have appeared in its most recent stick vacuums. It also looks like you can remove part of the internal tubing that connects the bin to the brushes. That would be a neat upgrade, as the 360 Heurist had a tendency to clog when vacuuming piles of large debris.
There is also a ‘quiet’ mode, which turns down the suction power – as well as the noise – which lasts for 75 minutes. To get all these settings in place is a bit of a faff though, to be honest. Robot vacuums and cleaners cannot entirely replace manual cleaning. Because of their size and shape, they will miss some corners and crevices, and they lack legs to climb up staircases.
The regular cleaning never lets it get to particularly bad levels, and if you spill something you’re more likely to get out a vacuum then and there and clear it up rather than leave it for the robot. Acing our pick-up tests on carpet and hard floors, this is a reliable investment. It’s self-emptying and can store up to 60 days’ worth of dust into its accompanying docking station. It will also let you know about spots it couldn’t tackle by taking pictures and sending them to the app.
A brush bar that is the entire width of vacuum provides edge to edge cleaning and prevents the 360 Heurist from having to make large overlapping passes. Probably my favorite feature of this new Dyson is their Link App. You can install it right on your smart phone, giving you an intuitive interface to link up with the Eye. See when your robot vacuum is cleaning, how much progress it has made, and even view a map showing where it has been in your home. Watch training videos and view maintenance information right at your fingertips. Set the schedule with a few quick swipes in the application and it will be off and running.
