Personally I’m not sure if there was really a call for a 2-burner Genesis, but here it is and it is an excellent grill either way. It just happens to be surrounded by really good competition in the Spirit II models. Finally there’s the semi-protected enclosure for your propane tank, complete with gas level indicator. You have your flavorizer bars, catching some of the grease drip and turning it into delicious smoke to really give your food that barbecued taste. Looking towards the bottom though, the enclosed cabinet standard on the old Genesis grills is gone, and you now have an open design.

One of the best ways to test a grill’s capabilities is setting it up for two-zone grilling. Indirect cooking relies on getting the temperature to hold at specific points, whether it’s just to cook a chicken breast through or the hours-long process of cooking pork butt. You’re not searing—just using the grill like an oven to cook the food the way you want it. If you can create a hot zone of direct heat above blazing burners for searing and a cooler indirect zone to to cook food through without scorching, you know you’ve got a grill worth its burners. The Genesis II follows Weber’s hallowed three-burner Genesis line, and there’s some nice thinking here.
