It is recommended that you clean your Series 5 shaver after each and every use. In an effort to help those of you with poor shaving technique, the shaving heads have a certain amount of give. When cleaning the shaver head with water only use hot water and from time to time some liquid soap . The flexible shaving heads and pivoting shaving unit did their work as the razor glided over the jawline with little effort.
This may vary according to your beard growth and environmental temperature. To this end, I would recommend avoiding any Series 5 models that do not come with a cleaning station. The whole cleaning process appears to be designed to steer you towards using the cleaning station. Braun’s cleaning stations work the best out of all the major brands and the Series 7 did not disappoint. The alcohol based cleaning detergent thoroughly removed all traces of hair clippings and even lubricated the blades.
My old series 5 is still working and actually is much lighter and faster and closer shave. I haven’t used an electric razor for over 20 years due to getting a rash from them and I bought this to give it a go. I think the bottom line overall from user reviews points toward it’s a good shaver, but not great. The most common complaint is how much effort has to be made and the time it takes to shave fully when users had quite a bit of growth. And as I have experienced some users mention how some hairs are just not picked up by the shaver. This does not apply to US and Canada models for users within the US and Canada.
If the appliance is marked 492, only use Braun power supplies coded 492-XXXX. This appliance is provided with a special cord set with integrated Safety Extra Low Voltage power supply. The design of the storage unit with the cleaner isn’t the best. It’s a little lop sided and unsightly Remington Shaver in the bathroom, but can be stored in cabinet if you have a charging point. One full charge of 60 minutes gives you 50 minutes of shaving time. It also has a 5 minute quick charge option, so you can get just enough battery for a quick shave before you head out the door. It would suit guys that shave every two days and don’t really have course hair. Gents that shave their heads every 2 or 3 days may find may also find it a good purchase. It should also be a good buy for those that get neck irritation from other electric shavers. Everything about the Remington Shaver is easy enough; from charge to shave and cleaning I cannot fault it unless I use it with a lot of growth.
