Had I not been so willing, I would have let cynicism prevail when Thermomix first came into my old-fashioned hands-on kitchen. At that time, I was not a gadget person, nor was I shopping for an appliance. But in a home trial of this kitchen machine I quickly came to realize that the Thermomix’s hidden value lies in something cuisinart griddler elite that is greater than the sum of its parts. You need time to chop, slice, sauté and stir—which occupies all your burners and leaves Burj Khalifa-sized stack of pots and pans in your sink at task’s end. To stir ingredients while cooking, use the Stir button. Put motor base of blender in water or other liquids.

Put the broth, garlic, onion, salt, pepper, potatoes and broccoli into the blender jar. Cover and set timer for 10 minutes and temperature on High. With Thermomix, ease of cleaning is so high that it allows for much more frequent use. One of the best parts of the Blend and Cook Soupmaker is the cleanup. If you add one cup of warm water and a drop of dish soap and blend on the low speed, then pour out the water and rinse, you’ll have clean blender ready for your next meal.

We started by sautéing onions on low for a Scotch broth, with the heating plate helping to release the aroma and taste of the onions. The glass jug itself is similarly well constructed, with the electronics slightly elevated from the bottom rim of the base to avoid damage, and a sturdy handle at the side. Measurements are marked on the front and back, while a snugly fitting lid, complete with removable measuring cup, pushes firmly on top to prevent excess steam escaping during cooking. Remove the blender jar from the motor base by lifting straight up and away. Twist off the jar collar with blade assembly by turning counterclockwise.

The advantage for me is that there’s only one thing to wash up instead of saucepan, stick blender and jug. Inevitably I used to end up with blended soup up the wall, over the worktop and usually me! However it just works differently to a hob by allowing the heat to dissipate through the liquid rather than continual bubbling. If you have visited recipethis.com before then you will know that we love our kitchen gadgets. We have all the famous ones including an air fryer, 2 electric pressure cookers, blender, 2 slow cookers, a bread maker, ice cream maker and of course a soup maker.

Naturally, being an inveterate collector of kitchen “stuff” I have a KitchenStir 1000 which is nothing near a competitor to Thermomix. About frequency of use – Most Thermomix owners use their machine 1-3 times a day, on average. The jury is out on frequency of use for the newer Soup Maker, but I have my doubts it will match the Thermomix in terms of range and frequency of daily applications.

I know that with new models you can make bread and steam food but I am not sure if mine can do these things too. Thanks for taking the time to contribute to this blog, your perspective will be much appreciated by the many readers who come here each day who do not yet own either machine. And I am clap, clap, clapping to your list of many Thermomix uses in the past three days. This is exactly why the machine is so popular — because once it arrives on a kitchen counter it gets used constantly, for so many different tasks. Thanks for your yummy list Mara — you are making me wish I were in the kitchen instead of at the computer.

If the temperature inside the glass jar is below 60°C, all 4 blending speeds and the pulse function can be operated. Above the display sits a dial for controlling blending, which gives four speed options and a pulse, as well as a separate button at the side to operate the machine’s stirring function. This is a slower rotation of the blades that’s used to mix food. Cuisinart’s automatic soup makers take the hard work out of creating healthy homemade soups from scratch.
