This mower uses the exact same controls and handle configuration as their 21-inch mower. The handles have a nice fall away from the center that makes them easy to grip with a natural positioning of your hands. As with nearly any mower when it encounters tougher grass Ego Powerload String and heavy loads, mulching and cut quality take a brief hit. After all, you’re almost eliminating the area under the deck, so the blade efficiency goes down dramatically . When you need to do dramatic cuts like that, plan on bagging—or mowing over the same area twice.
Get the 21-inch mower for lawns under 1/4-acre and get the 25-inch mower for anything larger. The handle houses a “Turbo-Mode” button, self-propelled drive-speed lever, and a battery life indicator so you’ll always know how much battery life is left. If you’re using two batteries, the mower will completely deplete one and then automatically switch to the other rather than use both simultaneously. Many battery-powered mowers require a two-step process of pressing the on button followed by the blade starter handle—in that order.
Make sure the motor is not hot when you store the machine. Turn nut to the left to remove blade B , spacer , and positioner . Clean the bottom of the mower deck after each use. Higher blade height is necessary for new or thick grass. Release the drive levers to close the self-propel system. Once the machine has started, you can release the start button .

By tugging on the rope, you pull a cord, which then turns over the engine to start the self-propelled lawnmower. For some people, having to pull the rope with a recoil-start mower can be difficult.
And, the reason the deck didn’t rust out like this one will is because it’s cast aluminum and not stamped low carbon steel. Once you begin investing in battery-powered tools, you begin to accumulate batteries which can greatly extend the use time of any tool. The worst mistake you can make is buying different brands of battery-powered tools. It’s important to choose what brand you will use before buying that first tool to get the benefit of switching batteries among all the tools. I had the lever moved about 3/4 the way to hare and the self-propelled walking speed was too slow for me—and I’m a leisurely mower.
If you have outdoor lawns separated by dirt paths or need to navigate gravel walkways, cobblestones, rocky edges, and anything else tricky during your mowing session, these wheels can handle it all. At $190, this is an expensive investment in your yard care arsenal. And, if you don’t want to wait to recharge your battery during Ego Powerload String heavy-duty jobs or if you simply have a large yard, you’ll likely want to pick up a second battery. The added expense will give you longer use times, but it’ll set you over $300 which is comparable to the price of a gas-powered leaf blower. After a bit of use, the weight of this leaf blower did start to wear on us.
The well-designed mobile app makes it easy to create work schedules, check the mower’s current status, and start and stop mowing cycles. It opens to a screen that displays the name of the mower and shows you its current battery level and operating status . Tap the Park button to have the mower return to the base and tap the Resume button to have the mower resume its work schedule. To be fair, it is hard to call a winner in this battle because both have almost identical power output.
