Since the Braun 5018s will only operate cordless, battery life is particularly important. And again I must mention the older models that came with the excellent Braun hard travel case. The up and down swivel of the head that we’ve seen on all Braun models from the Series 5 and up was actually very useful in practice. On the bottom of the razor there’s the typical Braun charging port. Like all the other 2020 models, the Series 5 also has a thumb rest on the front part. Its position is just right and it’s covered in the same rubberized material.
Its ergonomic design makes the use even simple, letting you shave effortlessly in a simple, one-way movement. Refer to the image above, the blades at the top and bottom are called the SensoFoil blades that contain 899 apertures capable of shaving at an outstanding 0.058 mm. It is as close shave as a classic razor blade can do, and it also saves you a ton of time every day. In the middle, you can see a different type of blade called the ActiLift Trimmer. The primary function of the trimmer is to capture and shave flat-lying hair and hair that grows in different directions.
Foil shavers like this are great at comforting the face as well. After the “Cleaning” part, the liquid lubricates the foil blades. The device dried in three hours after cleaning. I had to be extra careful while using the cartridge and installing a new variant after the previous cartridge depleted.
The universal voltage converter (100–240v) allows you to use 5018s anywhere in the world, so you can definitely consider it as a travel shaver. This means you can rinse them with water, but also shave in the shower or with your favorite shaving cream or gel. We’ll see how well it works in the cleaning and maintenance section of the review. And while the 3 cutting elements can move independently, the head unit of the 5018s is fixed. So this review will also be relevant in the case of the other models like the 5050cs, 5020s or the UK 50-B1200s and 50-W4650cs.
The LED display is brighter and is more detailed than some of the pricier models of Braun. To make things even sweeter and more comfortable, I use a pre-shave lotion. This doesn’t cause my skin to be lumpy and the shaver to drag over it when I’m going fast.
