The two nonstick roasting trays easily hold two pounds of fries or tater tots OR two baked potatoes, eight ounces of asparagus, and two steaks all at one time. The Vortex Plus takes two to three minutes to preheat — way less than a conventional oven OR my other air fryer — at which point it chimes and asks you to add the food. The max temperature on the Vortex is surprisingly just 400 degrees F.
I put all kitchen appliances through this test and most basket style air fryers don’t pass. If you are looking for an air fryer that is more than just an air fryer, the Instant Vortex Plus Oven might be the right choice for your kitchen. The air fryer oven also functions as a dehydrator and rotisserie in addition to baking, roasting, broiling, and reheating leftovers.
It works pretty well, but if they overcook they can fall apart and leave you with a mess that’s difficult to clean up. The bake function allows it to replace your oven for smaller baked goods. It will fit a single 9″x9″ cake pan, or an 8″ springform pan. I don’t have a 6 moosoo air fryer count muffin tin, but that may fit as well. According to the included insert, you can use any oven safe bakeware in it. If you’re not in a rush it’s also always worth waiting for traditional sale times like Black Friday or Boxing Day in case there are promotions running.
Before use or storing, make sure all surfaces are dry. Broiling cooks using direct top-down heating, perfect for melting cheese on French onion soup, instant vortex and nachos. There is no need to turn the food partway through cooking. When the cooker passes the preheating phase, the display shows Add Food.
While they are not all Vortex specific, some are meant specifically for the Vortex – check them out here! If it will fit in a normal air fryer it will probably fit in the Vortex. Since air fryers are technically oven, it won’t be complete without a muffin tray. This thing may be one of the most expensive air fryer/toaster/ovens out there, but it really can replace all three, which might make the price worth it.
Slight niggles like the plastic smell are outweighed by the easy to use touch pad and smart design. The basket and tray are both dishwasher safe, so you just pop everything in there and let it do the hard work, thank you very much. There’s a small pull handle on the tray which is stainless steel rather than non-stick – which is used everywhere else – and this definitely has the potential to build up dirt over time. I haven’t tested the machine’s broil or reheat function yet, but both come with good reviews. I’ll do my best to update this post with more as I continue to test. There is just something about meat on a spit that tastes better and now you’ll have one in your own home. The roast setting allows the food to cook slower than the air fry setting. However, if you are getting similar results from the air fry setting in a fraction of the time, this setting may not be used very often. It all depends on your desired outcome and the time you have to put into daily food preparation. It’s also quiet and easy to clean, and performs a number of other functions which helps it earn its keep in your cupboards.
