Six convenient built-in tool hooks keep your BBQ tools nearby. There’s been a lot of commentary about how the new lids look shorter than the 2016 models. It felt a bit cheesy to me.Tool hooks are hidden on the end of the left work surface. It took two hands to get both ends of the rack aligned with the brackets in order to lock in place.
My favorite feature is how the software pings you when you’re 10 degrees out from your probe’s target temp. It then pings you each time the thermometer rises by 1 degree until your food is done. Use stainless steel cleaner on any appropriate spots on the exterior to keep them looking their best.
The NexGrill Evolution two-burner is 5 inches skinnier than Weber and half the price. The Royal Gourmet Deluxe two-burner is even cheaper at $175 to $200. The Char-Broil Signature Series Tru-Infrared 2-Burner grill is a little more expensive, but at $380, it’s still far cheaper than the Genesis. However, the Weber Genesis is constructed of higher-grade materials, which is why it offers a 10-year warranty, versus the 1- to 2-year warranties of these other brands.
The Genesis II is powered by stainless steel burners that get more narrow towards the back of the grill. This shape reduces heat in the back, producing more consistent heat across the cooking surface. The burners are lit by a reliable push button infinity ignition and produce around 13,000 BTUs per burner on the 3 burner models, and 12,000 BTUs on the 4 burner models. I reviewed a grill in the LX series, which comes with a few more BTUs of heat and some additional bells and whistles. You can find similar features in other grills or buy them as after-market add-ons, but having them built into the model is a nice touch.
Had a Weber before that I handed down to my daughter as it is still working. I am enjoying new feature as it is great with steaks and burgers. Looking forward to using this grill for weber charcoal grill years to come… A review of the Genesis II assembly guide indicates that assembly is a two-person task featuring 37 assembly steps and up to 161 parts, depending on the model.
For $200 more, you get a third burner and a larger cooking area, bumping the Weber Genesis II E-310, $700, into our midsized category. After I got the new Weber Genesis II LX grill on my roof deck, I texted my buddy Ted, proposing beer and burgers at my place. I’ve reviewed Weber’s grills before and fully expected this one, the latest addition to its line of sturdy and well-made propane grills, to stand out as a high-end weekend warrior. This upgrade certainly does add to the versatility, making it easier for you to do low-and-slow style rotisserie. The size of the folding warming rack has been doubled to 11”, giving you a lot more room to cook things that you want to cook farther away from the burner.
Since indirect heat is the goal here, I left the center burner off. To add smarts to the Genesis II you’ll need to purchase the iGrill 3 accessory separately, a $100 upgrade. All of the Char-Broil SmartChef grill’s technology comes built-in. If you think gas grilling no longer has anything to offer, and you’re considering giving it up, you may want to think again. This grill performs beautifully and provides the precision control and versatility you need to think beyond the basics.
