Weber Q 1000 and 1200 Gas Grill Review

The LP model comes with an adaptor hose to connect to a 20lb propane tank. The natural gas model includes a hose and fittings weber charcoal grill to connect to a barbecue service line, should you have one. The Weber Q 1200 is one of three grills in the Q 1000 series.

The grill grates are the toughest part to clean, but they are small enough that they will fit in a dish tub to soak when you’re away from home. There is also a very durable porcelain coating covering the grates. Preheating is a requirement because if the grates aren’t hot, your food could bake right on.

Those accustomed to cooking on a full-sized grill know that a warming rack makes a difference to your barbecuing. Purchased at bjs problem is the 16 oz propane cans do not fit without forcing the regulator to the side because the can is forced portable bbq sideways by the handle. I have seen this complaint in other reviews WEBER needs to get off their arse and fix this. I called Weber they recommended I loosen all, the screws so I could try and get the can to fit that way…how ridiculous.

Max bottles his own barbecue sauce recipes and now sells them around the country. What is great about cast iron is its ability to retain heat. After all, if portability is what you are after, you also want to keep things simple. The pared down design is also great for an easier grilling experience, particularly for newbies.

While the Q1200 will be just the right amount of portable for some, it will be a definite fail for others. If you like to cook with really high temperatures—I’m talking over 500 degrees—you might have trouble getting there with only one burner.

I’ve also noted this issue up in the Quality section of this review. I agree it’s an obvious design flaw they should have caught and should fix. Also, keep in mind that if you have issues lighting the grill, read the manual to learn how to troubleshoot the igniter, regulator, and burner. I’m embarrassed at how long it’s taken me to publish this review, but here I am, four years after the Weber Q redesign, dragging my feet to compile all of my notes. We purchased the Weber Q 2200 so our review could put it to the test in her kitchen. The Weber Q 2200 Gas Grill makes it easy and convenient to grill on the go, but it’s spacious enough for everyday home use, as well.

Just set up the grill so that the lid opens away from the wind, creating a natural wind barrier. It also works very well in temperatures below freezing, for those of you crazies who insist on doing that. I feel there one massive strike portable bbq against it being genuinely portable. It’s around 30 lbs and is a bit cumbersome to transport without wheels. Out of the box, it feels a little clunky and awkward. It isn’t the type of grill you would be willing to carry very far.

I had leftover ground beef in the fridge, so I decided to grill up a burger for dinner. When you make rubs at home we recommend you add salt first them the herbs and spices because salt penetrates deep and the other stuff remains on the surface. We put salt in these bottled rubs because all commercial rubs have salt and consumers expect it. You can still use these as a dry brine, just sprinkle the rub on well in advance to give the salt time to penetrate. For very thick cuts of meat, we recommend adding a bit more salt.

The first portable grill I ever bought was a Weber Q100, the older version of today’s Weber Q1000. I bought it when I started this site back in 2011, and it actually was the reason I created this website. Which one of the Weber Q Series grills is right for you? Look at the table above to see what each grill includes; pick the one with the features you want.
