FCC filing shows Dyson is prepping next Roomba rival

The Micro is as compact as Dyson gets but its diminutive size is deceptive as it gets the job done over the course of its 20-minute battery life. The 0.2-litre capacity isn’t all that sizeable but should carry you through in smaller living spaces or if used for single-room cleaning. At this price, there’s very little to complain about with the X8 Hybrid. Everything is easy breezy with this device, you simply let it go. But, when you do need to add an attachment or customise the vacuum’s functions at all, that’s super simple to do as well.

Delivery is Monday to Friday 9am – 6pm local time, not including statutory holidays. If a delivery cannot be completed (for example, if you’re not home), the carrier will leave a notification at your door indicating where you can pick up your order. If your robot encounters an issue during a clean, an Amber ring will be displayed around the icon section.

Its dust container will be full of grey filth by the time its 45 minute cycle is done. However, I use our Dyson in our open plan living room / dining room / kitchen setup, and 45 minutes is just about enough. To get all these settings in place is a bit of a faff though, to be honest. After the Heurist does an initial mapping process – where it basically navigates around without cleaning for a while, there’s a lot of manual work to be done on your part to choose exactly what you want to happen and where. The 360 Eye narrowed the gap a bit when it came to pet hair. Out of the 0.2 ounces of pet hair, it collected 0.17 ounces on the mid-pile carpet, 0.19 ounces on the low-pile carpet, and 0.19 ounces on the hardwood floor.

The FCC filings come as the Dyson 360 Eye, which the company revealed as its first robotic vacuum in 2014, is listed as “out of stock” on the company’s US website. Dyson released the 360 Eye Heurist robotic vacuum last year but not in the US, so these FCC filings could point to Dyson’s second US attempt at tackling the likes of the Roomba. All of the above may sound like a faff, but the more time you spend setting things up, the less time you’ll spend moving items out of the way or rescuing the robot from getting stuck on a bit of furniture. On High suction mode, the robot vac measured in at around 70dB, which is louder than much of the competition.

When it comes to an obstacle or furniture is just goes around, not needed to find as many alternate routes. The Dyson collection bin is almost half the size of the bissell crosswave cordless iRobot bin. $1,000 is a pretty big investment but fortunately it comes with a 14 day money back guarantee – just enough time for you to test it out in your home.

We found that the Heurist’s connection to wi-fi is very poor, disconnecting itself every few minutes, which meant we couldn’t control it for periods of time. This robot vac doubles as a mop, and thanks to its manual controls can get to work almost as soon as you open its box. It cleaned well and quickly too – covering our test room in just under 18 minutes.

To block its path you will have to shut doors or put up barricades. Providing this isn’t an issue you have the Dyson name and up to a five-year warranty to back the machine. It does leave a bad taste in my mouth for the level of clean is does not do. However, as part of a regular cleaning program, the floors can shark cordless stay clean with regular use. The camera sensors need light to work, and if you turn off all your lights, neither vacuum will be able to “see” and won’t clean very well, if at all. The 360 Eye, though, to specifically answer your question is 4.72 inches in height and will need another half to full inch clearance.

Powered by Dyson’s V2 motor, which Spins at 78,000rpm, Dyson informs us that it has 20% more suction than the 360 Eye. The 360 Heurist has plenty of performance improvements over the original 360 to make it a better cleaner – we’ll get to those – but the most intriguing feature is night vision. The good news is you can prevent this from happening using some settings in the app, which I’ll get onto in a bit. However, if you have furniture with small gaps underneath them the Heurist obviously won’t be able to limbo its way in there. In my house, we have a big side cabinet that our Roborock machines have no issues navigating under but the Dyson doesn’t come close to getting involved.
