Weber Q 1200 Review Tested by GearLab

Portable grills are also great for bringing tailgating, to the beach, picnic areas, or campsites. grills feature a lightweight cast aluminum body that’s rust resistant and durable. These grills have a unique, compact design that can be transported virtually anywhere and used in many outdoor situations where a full-size grill would be cumbersome. Though the Weber Q portable grills may be small, they’re powerful and their performance rivals that of many full-size grills.

The Weber Q 1200 is an unexpectedly powerful grill, resulting in cook times that were much faster than expected for such a petite barbecue. Like other top models, this is all thanks to a single, U-shaped burner that effectively delivers heat across the range of the grill surface. Both grills have identical warranties with five-year coverage on the cookbox, lid assembly, burner tubes, cooking grates, and plastic components while covering every other part for two years.

When it comes to other items such as roasts or ribs, you may find that the lid is a little too shallow and the cooking area is just a bit too small. But even understanding the reasons behind the weight weber charcoal grill does not benefit this grill’s portability. Again, considering this grill against all other tabletop models in this review, the Q 1200 “packs down” to a less-than-reasonable 3.2 cubic-feet.

The Orson Gygi Company has evolved from a restaurant wholesale kitchen supply store, to a shopping experience for anyone searching for anything kitchen. Please see the links I’ve listed in the table for each Weber Q Grill to further your research. There are links to retailers and to my own detailed reviews and price comparisons. Look at the table above to see what each grill includes; pick the one with the features you want.

Not surprisingly, this grill doesn’t offer the control of full-size grills. This is not to say that it cannot be controlled, but that it will likely take a bit of a learning curve until you figure out how to do so. Temperature control tends to run away if this grill still has room to heat, i.e., it has yet to achieve its maximum temperature. Still, our testers were able to control the heat of this grill better than other models. As a portable gas grill that will likely appeal to novice cooks and experienced chefs alike, the accessibility of the Q 1200 is a major selling point. The battery-powered electronic ignition is the same you will find on a high-end, full-size grill.

The Q3200 is the only grill out of the portable bbq Series with a warming rack, something rarely seen in my reviews. Those accustomed to cooking on a full-sized grill know that a warming rack makes a difference to your barbecuing. Either of these grills would be great for those that don’t have the room for a full-size grill but still want the feel of a full-sized gas barbecue.

By sacrificing the extra cooking space, you gain a lighter grill that’s more suited to travel – and still offers great performance. Yes that’s right Weber briefly made a charcoal version of the Weber Q. The configuration and price of the grill proved to not be very appealing to the customers. The Char Q was built on the 200 frame so it was a large portable charcoal grill and with the price of $150 it proved to be something not worth it for consumers. The Char Q was released in 2008 and Weber ended production in 2011. Beyond size, the rest of the features remain the same as found in the Q1000 series. The Q2200 offers a built-in thermometer in the hood and electronic ignition.
