Vacuum Cleaners

The shark cordless Pet Perfect was the first-generation vacuum by Shark, released in October of 2013. This model of Shark is acknowledged by the name Shark Cordless Pet Perfect on the side of the vacuum. Light up your life with Govee’s RGBIC LED strip lights, complete with built-in IC chips for simultaneously displaying multiple colors. Boasting more than 65 feet of illuminations, the strip lights are equipped with 5,050 LEDs for creating unique design options over a large area.

They’re lightweight, easy on the back and run on rechargeable batteries, meaning no more irksome plugging and unplugging as you move around the house. Sticks tend to come with a range of useful attachments, such as a crevice tool for awkward areas like cars, an upholstery tool for de-crumbing sofas and a motorised brush for collecting stubborn pet hair. Features vary between models; some have far more power than others, better attachments and, crucially, longer battery life.

And with such a long battery life, you could vacuum your apartment multiple times or clean an entire two-story house before having to charge it. For all of these reasons, plus the easy three-minute assembly time, this is our top pick. The vacuum cleaner glided easily across hard floors, although there was some resistance on carpet since it’s a heavy cordless cleaner. The flexible wand proved useful for reaching under furniture, as did the six LED headlights on the floor-cleaning head – they made it easier to see the area we were vacuuming.

All four vacuums weigh less than 10 pounds but the Dysons are a bit lighter than the Sharks. The Dyson v10 Animal is 5.9 pounds, the Dyson v11 Complete is 6.68 pounds, and the Dyson v15 Detect is 6.83 pounds while the Shark Rocket Pet Pro is 7.17 pounds and the Shark Vertex is 9.04 pounds. All four are quite easy for me to carry up and down stairs (they are all a LOT lighter than my old corded vacuum). The vacuum’s battery can be removed to charge, which also means its easy to replace in the future if you need to. Shark also sell batteries and you can buy a model with 2 batteries in the box if you wish, this means you can always have a battery on stand-by. Here at The Spruce, we want to ensure we fully stand behind every product we recommend and that when we say something is the best, we mean it.

For a mix of bare floors and rugs, the surest bet is to get a vacuum that lets you turn the brush roll on or off. An aggressive brush can scatter certain kinds of debris on bare floors, or even scratch certain types of flooring, so it’s helpful to be able to switch it off. Most plug-in vacuums (including the upright and canister models we recommend) have this option, though it’s less common among cordless vacuums. The best cordless stick vacuums are lightweight and maneuverable without sacrificing the cleaning power of a corded model (and without costing too much, either). We experimented with the three attachments when cleaning stairs and found the crevice tool to be the most helpful, as the other two attachments are really designed with upholstery and drapes in mind. While cleaning the stairs was a bit time-consuming, since we opted to use the extension hose, rather than the motor head, the vacuum’s suction was still plenty powerful through this alternative mode.

If this is the case, a cylinder vacuum could be a wise alternative. Give your home a fresh scent with this innovative new vac from Shark that features built in air-freshening technology to combat any stale smells. Its cleaning credentials are equally impressive; it lifted irobot vacuum cleaner pet hair in one sweep and gobbled up every last speck of the biscuit crumbs laid on carpet. It’s worth noting that it is a bit cumbersome; it’s got a large charging station that works best mounted on a wall and testers found it quite heavy as a handheld vacuum.

There’s no special design that makes vacuums especially adept at picking hair up off of floors. Even the cheapest vacuums can pick up pet hair off a bare floor, and any vacuum that’s good at getting dust out of rugs will also be good at digging pet hair out of rugs. Detaching the wand and floor-cleaning head turns the cordless stick vacuum into a handheld cleaner, to which you can connect any of the irobot vacuum cleaner two included tools. The Shark Anti Hair Wrap Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner with PowerFins & Flexology is the brand’s latest release, and is a contender for our list of the best vacuums. This cordless vacuum cleaner, which can also be used as a handheld vacuum, offers three levels of suction. It’s powered by a rechargeable battery, which Shark claims will last for up to 60 minutes between charges.

It runs cheaper than the NV352 too, which makes it a solid choice if you’re working with a smaller budget. We’re not comfortable recommending any specific vacuums that cost less than $150 (except when the models we just mentioned go on sale). Plenty of vacuums cost less than that, and some of them actually work pretty well—at least when they’re brand-new. But even the good ones tend to wear out quickly and often can’t be repaired at all. It will usually pay off in the long run to spend a little more today on a vacuum that will last longer. This is the Roomba i3 packaged with a charging dock that automatically sucks all the debris out of the robot after a cleaning session.
