The Mongoose Exlipse Dual-Suspension bike is perfect for beginners looking to try lighter trails and basic off-road cycling. With its vivid pink color scheme, this is a bike that is definitely aimed at the girl’s market. The braking system is a front and rear mechanical disk system that provides plenty of stopping power in all situations and conditions. Other reviewers noted how easy the assembly was, and others said that their kids loved the orange color and the cool looks. Despite the bike being rated from age 6 to 9, some reviewers have noted that 4-year-olds can easily ride this bike too, which is great for stretching a year or two of extra use out the bike.
Schwinn offers a tricycle called eMeridian Trike, which has a motor strong enough to climb uphill. The aluminum frames of Schwinn mountain bikes are light and sturdy at the same time. If you want a downhill, fat bike, or dirt jump bike like Mongoose, you might need to do a little bit of research from your side because they do not categorize them accordingly.

We’ve put over forty 16 inch pedal bikes to the test with real kids! As result, we have learned firsthand that there isn’t one best bike, but rather bikes that are better for different types of riders. More mongoose fat tire bike often than not, it will be front suspension with only a couple of inches of travel. Most kids, especially younger kids, aren’t heavy enough to need suspension as they are often too light for it to activate.
What We Look for in a Budget-Friendly BikeWhile these bikes are not as well-designed or as light as the bikes that take our top recommendations, they all perform impressively for their price tag. They also feature good basic geometry with properly placed handlebars (not too high, not too low), a reasonable weight (under 21 lb.), and a durable build. The rigid frame works well for snow and sand riding but loses ability in comparison to a suspended mountain bike. In the end, bikes are fun and if you are a fat biking family then I would highly recommend picking up an Argus to get your budding pre-teen out there with you having snowy adventures. The Argus just so happens to be capable enough for trail riding too.
In addition, with 24-inch wheels, my son’s bikes are getting big enough that I am able to ride them without damaging anything. I’m not taking them off jumps or going for sustained rides, but just trying to get the feel and experience of the machine.
