Pots and Pans Sets

They look gorgeous, last a lifetime, and can be used for everything from steaming rice to braising chicken to simmering soup. Every set will also include one or two saucepans and, again, larger ones are more useful as you can warm a cup of soup in a 3-quart pot but might not be able to make enough rice for the whole family in a 1-quart. Although there is no evidence that traditional nonstick coatings are toxic or harmful to cook in, they can release fumes if they overheat, which can happen if you preheat an empty nonstick pan or use it over very high heat. If you want the benefits of a nonstick coating but want to minimize any risks, you can opt for a ceramic nonstick coating. While these finishes, which are derived from sand, are not quite as good at releasing food and not as long-lasting, they can be safely used at higher heats.

We evaluated how well the nonstick surfaces released eggs and pancakes and how easy everything was to clean. Finally, we checked the ease of use for all of the items, including whether handles became hot to the touch and whether each piece was oven- and/or dishwasher-safe. All-Clad has been a top performer in our cookware tests; it heats evenly, prevents food from sticking and browns meat well. While we haven’t tested this All-Clad set, we are pleased to see that the brand’s new nonstick line is oven-safe up to 500˚F.

We’re also fans of sets like these that include small and medium sauté pans. The pots and pans are easy to handle and wash, though the outside of the pans got marred over higher temps as it commonly does with stainless Cookware Sets steel. They also worked well on induction, a not-so-easy feat for many nonstick pans made of lighter materials. The pieces stand out for having the heft of stainless steel pans but the ease of nonstick pans.
