You want to be careful carrying it on the go to avoid draining the battery. However, you can lock a Series 5 shaver when traveling by simply pressing and holding the switch for 3 seconds. It’s hard to find fault with this shaver – it performs well, it looks great and it’s priced competitively. Even the negatives aren’t a big deal, and most people will be able to cope without a pouch or being able to see the battery display when the shaver is plugged in. Sure, we’d like a longer battery life, but with so much else going for the Series 5, we’d be prepared to waive that.
Unfortunately, the short charging cord strikes once again and you will have to sit your cleaning station quite close to your power outlet. Like most electric shavers, the Series 5 is best used when cutting hairs under 1/8th of an inch long . This flaw was also present in the Series 9 and Series 7 Shavers we reviewed.
Series 5 has a larger body but feels well-balanced in hand. The shavers from both series come with a textured plastic wrap for a more secure grip for both dry and wet shaving. The shaving blade systems in Series 5 and 7 are fairly similar. They consist of two foils with a trimmer mechanism located in between.
The Series 5 is quite similar to the Series 7 performance-wise and if budget and cost of ownership are a concern , then the Series 5 would be a very good choice. It’s suitable for sensitive skin, but I do find the Series 7 a bit more forgiving and gentle. The Series 7 also feels slightly faster Remington Shaver and more refined — the Series 5 vibrates quite a lot during use. Finally, the Series 7 requires fewer strokes to get flat-lying hairs on my neck, but this would be a concern only when shaving less often, like every 2 or even 3 days. For daily/every other day shaving it wouldn’t matter so much.
But Braun left the built-in trimmer idea and used detachable trimmer technology in the new series 5. The new detachable precision trimmer looks like the dedicated trimmers. I observed the new trimmer is more useful than the older ones. Because Braun Series 5 I could trim off my full beard with the new precision trimmer. The trimming result was not as satisfactory as the professional trimmers though. However, it might be a downside as well for the users who don’t like to use brute force.
Shaving flat and long hairs with the 5018s is when the downgrade from the previous cassette is the most obvious. Some electric razors like the Series 7 and 9 are very good in these situations, but the cheaper ones tend to struggle. I’d say that the 5018s and the rest of the models in this lineup will be suitable for someone with light to medium facial hair. This is a problem area for me with most entry to mid-range Braun shavers. Overall, the build quality and ergonomics are adequate considering the price of the Series s, but the shaver feels underwhelming compared to the old Series 5. The Braun 5018s and all the new Series 5 razors are suitable for wet & dry use.
The result is a perfectly clean shaving head, with all the hairs and dirt removed. The blades are also lubricated and have a nice, citrusy scent. After completing the shave, the first thing I do is detach Remington Shaver the shaving head from the hand-held unit and very gently tap it on the countertop, foils side up. The 5090cc comes with a Li-Ion battery that provides up to 45 minutes of cordless shaving time.
For these reasons I highly recommend the Series 5 if you have sensitive skin or suffer from razor burn. With only 3 cutting elements, it’s also quite slim and very easy to maneuver in tight spots, especially when compared to a 5 blade Panasonic Arc 5 behemoth. There is a generous, textured rubber insert that extends to the sides and provides an excellent grip even when your hands are wet.
