Weber® Q® 1200 40 9″ Black Gas Grill

While the Traveler does fold up easily and can be dragged around without too much effort, it is still rather heavy pounds to be exact — especially with the grill grates inside. I personally wouldn’t want to drag or carry this grill on a hike or even a long walk. The 1200 is extremely portable considering it’s a grill. I was able to pack it in the trunk of my car with very little effort. In the above image you will see how its side tables are folded in, while the bottom shows everything opened up. This makes for very easy storage — whether it be in the trunk of your car or your garage.

While some gas grills do allow you to allow use charcoal in them, this particular portable grill does not. The Traveler is not much easier or more difficult to clean than your standard gas grill. There’s a drip tray to catch the worst of it and you can easily remove the grill grates to clean the inside of the firebox or hull of the grill.

The side tables work okay but they are flimsy enough that I never trust them with anything important. I will use the side tables to hold barbecue sauce and tongs but I don’t have enough faith in them to let them hold a platter of steaks. Even though it is not necessarily insulated, the heavier-weight cast aluminum lid seems to be well-suited to retaining critical heat when outside temperatures drop. While Piezo igniters can also be finicky in cold weather, the electronic ignition system is entirely dependable . The major difference between these models is that the Q1200 has a thermometer built into the grill lid. The Q1200 also comes with an electronic ignition compared to the 1000’s clicky push button. The grill is compact enough to fit into tight spaces but still offers a ton of cooking space. The lid is tall enough to let you cook a beer can chicken and there is enough grate space for a big pile of chicken wings.

It seems like it was a one-off fluke, and honestly, the resolution was simple enough that it didn’t bother me too much. This little grill cooks just as well as my full sized Weber Genesis II 300 series. Since I am only cooking for two of us now, capacity is not an issue. I can put it in the portable bbq trunk and take it to the park or beach. The stand itself is a bit on the flimsy side but it’s nice for use on the deck and I can fold everything down and roll it away in the corner when not in use. The only downside is that I go through the 1lb gas bottles after only a handful of cooks.

This is because the aluminum body is very good at retaining heat. Due to its small size, I recommend this grill for cooking for two people. While the weber charcoal grill 100 is quite small and reasonably light, this grill does have a bit of extra heft to it because of the cast iron grill grate. All cast aluminum parts have a 5-year warranty, excluding paint which has a 2-year warranty that excludes fading or discoloration. The thermoplastic/thermoset parts, which I can only imagine include parts that are expected to get hot, are also covered for 5 years, excluding fading.

BBQGuys does more than test and sell grills — we show you how to use them, too. Our experts provide the recipes and skills you need to be a grill master. I also own a Weber Q2200, which I have not done a review on, but I did write a review on its older model, the Weber Q220, which you can find here. This is all of the information that I can share with you at this time.
