EGO Battery ST1623T POWER+ 16 LINE IQ String Trimmer with POWERLOADTechnology

But with respect to your battery use I’m surprised it took so much. I can clean up my tree patch (roughly a 1/3 acre) with my echo in one battery charge and it’s a 58V 4AH kit. I’d like to see a comparision (or I’m willing to do one next year if asked) between some of the other systems. I have the Echo 58V system and the Gen 1 trimmer motor. EGO now makes one with attachment capabilities too.

Nobody wants a weak and inefficient power tool. Items over 100lbs shipped via semi-truck, be sure to select “Lift Gate” to lower the product to the ground curbside. Remote area surcharges may apply, see our full shipping policy for more details.

I have 2 batteries, so it’s not as big an issue for me, but extra batteries are expensive. Keep in mind that EGO’s batteries will fit all of their products, so if you have more than one EGO tool, the ability to swap batteries is a big plus. As the string becomes too short, just tap the head on a hard surface and the line will feed out automatically.

This is usually the go-to line size for the Pro. This includes the string trimmer spool pre-wound with 17 feet of 0.095 in. Yes, though we offer a standalone edger tool, you can use the string trimmer as an edger by turning the tool sideways and adjusting the auxiliary handle for comfort. With the battery attached, the POWERLOAD String Trimmer has a nice balance to it—not too heavy on either end. This balance and its lighter weight helps keep arms from tiring out too soon.

The other really notable feature of the new EGO Carbon Fiber String Trimmer is the Powerload auto-feeding head. Anyone who has wrestled with loading fresh line into a string trimmer head understands this. Some systems work better than others—but none work as easily as the Powerload system. However, weight distribution plays a big part in how comfortable the string trimmer actually feels. The feather-light shaft doesn’t mean a whole lot if the trimmer is unbalanced. You wind up having to physically overcompensate by keeping the heavy side lifted up.

The 15″ cutting swath and heavier 0.095″ twisted line was definitely appreciated. I don’t think a lighter duty trimmer could have handled what I pushed this EGO through. I bought the first Ego product, the 12″ string trimmer, when it first came out about 4-5 years ago. It was a disaster due to a poorly designed head that made line feeding frustrating, no matter how carefully the string was wound on the spool.

EGO is the way to go for home owner, battery powered , lawn equipment no doubt. The power is beyond impressive, and the Power Load feature is worth the additional investment. Needless to say, I can maintain my entire yard (well, front or back, can’t do both without recharging) with ease.

And, to assure complete independence, we buy all the products we test ourselves. No cherry-picked units sent by manufacturers. Just real, honest, side-by-side testing and comparison. Fortunately, the guard keeps the flying detritus from our faces, and the noise level is what we’ve come to expect from quieter battery-powered tools. Ego sells larger batteries for longer jobs, as well as a rapid charger, and these are pricey, especially if you’re not committed to the Ego line of tools.

By the way, if and when I call support on anything I have reviewed, I do so anonimously to avoid any special treatment. I’m interested in battery powered lawn equipment. However, there are a few issues I still have with them.

However, attachment systems use a driveshaft to run each attachment and create an electrical separation from the power source. Our best guess is that there’s an additional electrical connection for both sides. We’ll dive deeper once we get one in our hands. It is powerful and the string IQ feature is excellent. Very light weight and the battery lasts over an hour when in constant use, just perfect to take a break and quickly recharge the battery. This “string trimmer/weed eater” is powerful…be sure to buy the shoulder strap(a harness would be better!?but is unavailable?) before use.
